YANGON -- Kyaukdata Court yesterday held a second trial of 14 Michaungkan protesters who face charges of illegally opening 11-day protest camp in front of Yangon City hall on December 12 including Section 18.

At yesterday’s trial, three plaintiff witnesses including Police Deputy Superintendent Tin Hla, testified against the protesters.

“We interrogated the Police Deputy Superintendent Tin Hla and Maung Maung Zaw, an officer from the Administration Department of the City Development Affairs. The witnesses gave wrong reports during the court hearing. All people know that the city development council was playing the Sound box. The media described that the city development used to play the Sound box. However, they [witnesses] replied that they didn’t know. They said that the protesters were getting a bit noisy. But they didn’t know how the protesters made a noisy protest,” Rawbert San Aung, defendants’ lawyer, told the media.

The police raided the Michaungkan protest camp in front of the City Hall in the early morning of December 23. 14 protesters were detained and the West District court charged them with Sections 18, 431 and 143.

The third trial will be held on January 16.
