Illegal lumber seized from police officer's home in Sagaing

A cache of illegal wood was seized from a police officer's home in Monywa, Sagaing Region, on June 6, according to officials.

Nearly a tonne of timber including teak, tamalan, pidauk, thitya and pyingadoe wood was seized after the house was raided under special instructions from the regional government.

The owner of the home is police officer Aung Swe, who will soon be transferred to Rakhine State from Yinmabin District.

"We raided the house as instructed by the Sagaing Region government. It was made with a search warrant," said a forestry official who took part in the raid.

The legal proceedings against the police officer will be conducted through police channels, he added.
