Police detained and interrogated seven people, including a fugitive foreigner, in connection with an illegal drug trade in Thaketa and Yankin townships, Police Brig-Gen Kyaw Win of the anti-narcotics task force said.
“We seized heroin weight of 3.695 kilos, 2,166,012 methamphetamine tablets and ‘ice’ narcotics weighing 299.6 kilos, which were worth about Ks32 billion. Police also seized two guns, two pistols and 15 bullets from the smugglers. Five vehicles are also confiscated,” said Kyaw Win.
The arrests were a follow-up to a massive drug seizure in Yangon on November 17, 2016, he said.
“We caught nine smugglers including Cai Jeng Ze on November 17, 2016, and prosecuted 25 smugglers. A total of 16 out of the 25 smugglers are on the run. One fugitive we caught now is one of them,” he said.
Most of the drugs were seized at a house in Kamakyi street, Thaketa township.
Police have informed Interpol to arrest the remaining fugitives, he said.
