The low pressure area over the East-central Bay of Bengal may intensify into a depression within 36 hours and requires constant observation as it is near Myanmar coast, said Director General Dr Kyaw Moe Oo from Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“It’s hovering over East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast and is likely to cross into India on September 20 or 21. We need to observe it as it is near Myanmar’s coast line,” said the director general.

According to the observations made around 5:30 pm of September 18, the low pressure area over the East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast still persists. It is likely to further intensify into a depression during next 36 hours. Monsoon is strong to vigorous over the Andaman Sea and South Bay and moderate elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.
