South Korea is planning to employ over 10,000 Myanmar workers for their factories in this year, according to Government Overseas Employment Agency under Labour Department.
Myanmar workers are working in construction, production, agriculture and livestock sectors since 2011 and up to over 30,000 workers are currently working in South Korea.
“South Korea allowed over 4,000 Myanmar workers in its industries last year and now they increased the number of workers to 10,000. There are 8,700 workers in production sector, 400 workers in agriculture and livestock sectors and 900 workers in construction sector,” said Assistant Director Aye Aye Thaw from the agency.
Application forms to sit exams to apply to work in South Korea are selling at Yangon region for lower Myanmar and Mandalay region for upper Myanmar.
“The application forms are handed out in advance at Korean language schools and distributed on March 5 and 6 in Yangon region, and 9 and 10 in Mandalay region. If the application forms are distributed in advance at the language schools, the applicants only need to come to submit the application forms. Last year they came here to take out the application forms and came back again to submit the forms. When they came to submit the forms, we collected US$24 for exam fees,” she said.
There are over 17,000 application forms are distributed to the language schools at Yangon region and 8,000 application forms at Mandalay region on March 12.
South Korea is increased basic salary last year and a worker can earn between Ks1.5 and 1.7 million per month. If the overtimes fees are added, they can earn up to over Ks2 million.
