SITTWE-  Author Wai Hin Aung from Sittwe Township, Rakhine State, has been detained in Yathedaung Township over a talk he gave there on Monday, January 15.

“Wai Hin Aung already has been investigated in District Police Station. He is currently in Myoma Police Station,” said Wunlet Foundation director Khaing Kaung Zan.

“The administrator of Yathedaung Township filed a lawsuit against author Wai Hin Aung who defamed the government at the talk. In my opinion, the defamation of the government’s reputation under Section 505 (b) should be abolished.”
The District Police Head confirmed the lawsuit against Wai Hin Aung," he added.

Wai Hin Aung and Dr Aye Maung attended the literature talk held to mark the 233rd anniversary of the fall of the Rakhine/ Arakanese Kingdom. The event was organised by the Arakan Social Organisation.

Speculation has spread that Dr Aye Maung may also face a lawsuit over his talk.
