Stores inside a public school were raided by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials on January 9.
Under an operation to ensure canteen food safety, , the FDA visited the No. 1 Thingangyun Township high school in Yangon and took samples from the canteens.
The officials have also visited canteens at institutions in Mon State since December 19.
An inspection at the Yangon University on November 28 found formalin, a prohibited chemical, was used in the noodles as a preservative.
The noodles were destroyed and the shopkeepers were warned.
The operation will extend to other states and regions, according to the FDA.
The National Food Law prohibits the sale and use of chemicals and foods not approved by the FDA.
Those who are found guilty under the food law are liable to a fine as well as a maximum prison sentence of three years.
