A fisherman was killed and four others are missing after a fishing vessel capsized in Pyapon Township on December 5, according to Ayeyawady Region Police Force.
Deputy Pol Colonel Khin Maung Latt of the Ayeyawady Region Police Force said that fishing boat Shwepinlae (Golden Sea), carrying 19 fishermen, left Pyapone Township on December 4. Around 12pm, the vessel capsized after encountering large waves and disturbed seas 45 nautical miles off the township’s coast.
Nearby fishing vessels responded to the distress and managed to save 14 fishermen, said Khin Maung Latt.
“We are searching for the missing fishermen with the help of other fishing vessels. We plan to send them back to their regions.”
Action will be taken against those responsible for the vessel accident after the cause has been determined, he added.
