After a crackdown in Meiktila, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized expired drugs, packets of mixed pills and unlicensed medicines.
Dr Kyaw Than, chief of the town’s FDA branch, said: “Some drugstores were found selling controlled medicines without licences. They could apply for licences at our office. We seized only a few packets of mixed pills.”
He added that some storeowners did not store medicines properly.
“Their storing methods are unsystematic. For example, some drugs were found in room temperature settings, even though their instructions say to keep them in a fridge.”
The storeowners will not face any action since the raid was conducted during an education period, he said.
The crackdown on 61 drugstores in Meiktila was organized by the FDA, the Public Health Department and city development committee officials.
