Lashio holds regular Yaypu goods burning

Confiscated food stuff items from Yaypu Inspection Gate were destroyed and burned on August 17 in Lashio.

Chinese made products such as instant noodles, soft drinks, preserved fruits, alcoholic drinks, condiments and so on primarily made up the bulk of the total destroyed items worth Ks 1.4 billion.

The ceremony, the fifth of its kind this year, was held within Lashio’s tax department grounds.

So far, the total worth of destroyed items this year is now over 3 billion Kyats.

That Yaypu Inspection Gate is situated between Muse and Lashion along the main border route between Myanmar and China.

“We mainly burnt food stuffs that were confiscated at the Yaypu gate. There are other items such as decks of cards and medicine. This haul comes from a total of 43 cases and is worth over one billion. The inspection gate main finds consist mostly of timber and jade,” said Lashio’s tax department chief Thant Zin Htun.
