Five Sri Lankan fishermen were found in the Bay of Bengal near Chaung Thar village in Pathein on August 9.

A fishing boat from Myanmar saw their vessel drifting and informed the Marine and Fisheries Department. They found the vessel’s documents and registration cards. They left Matara, Sri Lanka, on June 25 and had been drifting since their engine broke.

"Their ambassador will come to meet them and we’ll transfer them to their embassy,” said Sub-Inspector Wanna Aung of Chaung Thar.

The vessel was being temporarily held by the authorities and the Sri Lankans were being locked up by Chaung Thar police.
