The FDA’s inspection at drinking-water firms in Yangon.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it has suspended five drinking-water firms until further notice for producing without approval.

The suspended brands were Swan, Pho Chit, Myat Noe EainKar Kar and Reed Thet San Yay, added the FDA.

FDA officials made inspection tours in Hlegu, Yangon Region, on August 9 and ordered four other firms to stop manufacturing until they were proved to follow good manufacturing practices.

Two water brands Nandar Giri and Kaungkin had been found continuing their businesses despite suspension orders and the FDA said it had given them their last warning.

The organisation has warned drinking-water manufacturers to obey its suspension orders or face legal action.

The FDA has approved 82 new drinking-water brands and 60 licence extensions so far this year.

Over 1,000 drinking-water firms are licensed and on the market, according to the FDA.
