Waziya Cinema II in Hlaingthaya Township, on the outskirts of Yangon, will undergo a three-month makeover as a digitally equipped three-screen mini theatre.
When the cinema reopens in April, Zaw Min of Mingalar Cinema Group and the organisation's Administration, Distribution and Exhibition layer will take over the operation of Waziya Cinema II from the Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation (MMPO).
"We will screen both local films as well as foreign films at the cinema," said Htay Aung from the Administration, Distribution, and Exhibition layer.
"Located in Hlaingthaya Township, Waziya Cinema II is one of the cinemas popular with movie buffs. We expect the number of moviegoers to increase on completion of renovation work. The quality of the cinema will be on a par with those in downtown Yangon."
