The opposition National League for Democracy in collaboration with many performers will hold funfairs to mark the centenary of Bogyoke Aung San’s birthday in Yangon for three days beginning on Union Day, February 12.
General Aung San’s Birthday Organising Committee held a press conference at the Royal Rose in Yangon to describe the proceedings.
An event organiser said: “The events are to enable people to find out more about Bogyoke Aung San, to bring back his life story and qualities, to implement the guidance and policies of Bogyoke and to nurture future leaders among the young.”
The celebrations for Union Day will include photo, painting and cartoon exhibitions, a slogan contest and music show.
There will be poetry recitals, a Bogyoke’s speech contest, the opening of the centenary of Bogyoke’s birthday celebration and shows by the Anawmar Thukhuma troupe will be held on February 13. The prize presentation ceremony will be held on February 14.
Moe Win of Anawmar Thukuma Thabin said: “Our entertainment programme is to enable heroes and martyrs to emerge from the next generation. The performers are very eager to entertain in the funfairs to mark Aung San’s birthday.”
Musician Toe Toe Naing Tun said: “We want to show our gratitude to Bogyoke Aung San. He sacrificed so much for our country’s independence throughout his life.”
