Francophonie festival to be held

A festival celebrating the French language and culture will be held in Yangon on February 11.

The festival, called Francophonie,  will feature a French symphony and have support from the University of Cultural and Arts. The event will take place at the French Cultural Centre.

The aim of holding Francophonie is to bring people together and promote opportunities for closer relations between the French and Myanmar peoples.

The event starts at 10 am and ends at midnight. From 10am to midday, visitors can enjoy   French food tasting, handicrafts and an introduction to French language classes.

There will also be a book stand, a Petanque competition and make-up sessions for children.

At 1 pm, a French-language dictation competition will be held. It is for students from the French language centre as well as for those interested in the language.

Board games will also be played as well as a treasure hunt.

A bluegrass musical duo inspired by the circus will perform for visitors. That act is supported by the Swiss embassy.

 At 6.30 pm, a solo and group singing competition will be held. In the evening, Les Orgres de Barback, a French symphony and Saiwai from Myanmar cultural university will be performed for the first time. The last show of the day will be DJ performance. The Les Orgres de Barback was founded in 1994.
