Event to mark 10th anniversary of death of writer Tar Yar Min Wai


Commemorations for the 10th anniversary of the death of writer Tar Yar Min Wai will be held at Yangon Book Plaza on August 5.

The event will include readings of his poems and discussions about the legacy of Tar Yar Min Wai. A book titled ‘Tar Yar Min Wai for Memory’ - coordinated by writer Aung Din, a brother of Tar Yar Min Wai – will be given out as gifts to guests at the event. The book will not be sold in shops.

The writer also went by the pseudonyms of Chit Nyi Nyi and Shwe Bhone Lu. He was born in September 13, 1966. He was involved in the 1988 uprising and in 1989, he became a leader of student union. He was arrested in 1990 for his student movement and was imprisoned in Insein Prison, Thayat Prison and Tharyawaddy Prison.

His first article was published in Yin Khon Than Magazine in 1994. He wrote more than 50 novels, short stories and poems.

He died on August 5, 2007.
