Memory Film Heritage Festival to pay tribute to old titles
The Memory Film Heritage Festival, which showcases classic movies from around the world, will be held at the Waziyar Theatre in Yangon from November 3-12.
“We’ve planned to hold this festival annually. This year the theme is different from that of previous ones,” said Swe Zin Htaik of the international relations committee of the Myanmar movies group. “This year, we’ve selected old movies from around the world as well as Myanmar.
“The debut of movies in Myanmar will approach its 100th anniversary in the near future and so this is a kind of preparatory event. There will be film and script discussions, and it is a good opportunity for film lovers and film creators to come together.”
Aside from the Waziyar Theatre, last year’s event was also held in Maha Bandoola Prak in central Yangon. This helped to attract more people.
The list of the films showing in the festival will be announced in September and the screening timetables as well as the industry guests from overseas will be announced in October. Ten movies also will be selected for screening in regional countries, such as Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
Myaganaing, an old-time Myanmar film, will be shown in villages during the festival.
