Young movie director Mi Mi Lwin has received several awards at the Short Shorts Film Festival held in Japan this month.
She earned the highest “Grand Prix” award as well as the Best Short Award and Governor of Tokyo Award for her short film “Sugar and Spice”.
The film is about the lives of her parents in their peaceful village where they make sweets.
Sugar and Spice will enter international film festivals next year in the United States.
“I did not expect to receive the awards at all. I wasn’t even sure about coming to Japan in the first place but now that I’ve won multiple awards, I’m so glad I did. I am also honoured that an international audience appreciates my film based on my parent’s simple and peaceful rural life,” said Mi Mi Lwin.
