Exit Books, a brand new book publisher, has been formed to provide for the "young adult" or teenage market.
The publisher will be a part of the "Ngar Doe Sar Pay" (Our Literature) publishing group and produce original Burmese content and translations of titles like the Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games books.
Exit's first book will be released this month: a translation about the search for the mythic city of Atlantis.
“The young adult category encompasses horror, thrillers, romance, fantasy and sci-fi. Internationally those categories are extremely popular and successful while the domestic market is lacklustre. Exit Books aims to fill in that space and we will continuously be producing books, especially translations of international bestsellers, while promoting domestic authors looking to write for young readers,” said Myay Hmone Lwin from Exit Books.
