Approx. three million tourists by the end of August 2015; 30 percent more than last year

From January to end of August 2015, about three million tourists entered Myanmar, according to the the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

The volume is 30 percent more that of the same period of last year.

The expected tourist volume for 2015 by the government and tour business – five million tourists will be coming this open season, said Htay Aung, Union Minister of Hotels and Tourism.

Despite the increase of tourist entrance, there are many requirements in human resources and infrastructure sectors in Myanmar, said Union Minister.

Five million euro will be used for the development of human resources in tourism sector, and this will be implemented by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism in cooperation with Luxembourg.

Myanmar has over 800,000 working in tourism-related businesses, and if the human resource development project as well as the servicing business is expanded, workforce will be increased to about three million, expected the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

Myanmar won the best destination of the year 2015 award chosen by Singapore-based Travel magazine, TTG Travel Trade Publishing.

Myanmar is expected to receive about two billion dollar from five million tourists in 2015. If this expectation is met, the Myanmar tourism sector and related businesses will become a business that speed up quickly in the quasi government’s period.

During 2014 – a year with record in tourism sector, over 3.081 million tourists were seen in Myanmar and over one billion dollar was earned from the tourism sector. The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism carried out expansion of the travel destination zones and supporting processes before 2015. Therefore, more tourists are expected in 2015.

If local and foreign business people want to establish a travel company, the ministry has made reduction on business scrutinizing, said Myo Win Nyunt, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism Department.
