14,000 tonnes of wood set for tender

Myanmar Timber Enterprise plans to call an open tender for about 14,280 tonnes of wood and timber, the tender committee said yesterday.

The committee said timber and wood from Yangon, Sagaing, Mandalay, Ayeyawady, Bago, Tanintharyi regions and Shan, Kachin, and Rakhine states will be sold.

The auction will be held from March 7 to 9 at Myanmar Timber Enterprise (MTE) compound in Insein Township, Yangon.
Meanwhile, logging has been halted around the country.

Last December, MTE put more than 5,000 tonnes of hardwood up for auction, including teakwood from Sagaing, Mandalay, Ayeyawady and Bago region, plus Mon and Kachin states.

The enterprise still has more than 600,000 tonnes of timber and seized logs and wood that will be sold this year when needed.
