Kanpiketi, Muse and Chinshwehaw in Myanmar-China border have been chosen for the border economic zone project, said Dr Than Myint, Union Minister for Commerce at the first coordination meeting of the Central Committee for the Joint Implementation of Myanmar-China Border Economic Zone Project on July 12.
In May, 2017, Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China to develop the border economic zone project. Under the MoU, the site for the border economic zone project is chosen. The project covers Kanpiketi in Kachin state and Muse and Chinshwehaw in Shan state.
The establishment of the border economic zone project may increase investments, create more business and job opportunities, develop Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), improve productivity and boost bilateral trade, Dr Than Myint added.
China is working to implement the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road that will connect the world countries economically. This project is one part of One Belt One Road project and is included in China-Myanmar economic corridor project.
