The government and private sector need to cooperate to enable Myanmar's fishery sector to acceess opportunities in China-Myanmar economic corridor project, said Win Kyaing, general secretary of Myanmar Fisheries Federation (MFF).
"In the fishery sector, it is no longer possible to extend catching fish naturally. But we can extend fish farming. We will try for producing fingerlings first. If we have fingerlings and feedstuf for them, we can breed any kind of fish. It is a promising business. How will we consider China with a large market? We have studied China many times. What are their technologies and market? We hold about three meetings a week. The president of MFF seems to know a lot about China. So we are trying to make investments and implement projects," said Win Kyaing.
Both governments are due to soon sign the agreement on the economic corridor project including in OBOR (One Belt One Road).
He said Myanmar must develop fish farming to effectively apply Chinese market. But he stressed the need to receive government cooperation.
He added that China may provide technological help and financial loans. China is a major market and even other markets cannot be expected, he commented.
