Myanmar and China have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding this year in order to implement an economic corridor project, according to a press conference held at the office of Myanmar Investment Commission on July 9.
"A Myanmar delegation visited China in February and a final agreement has been reached to sign the MoU. Both sides have not yet decided to sign the MoU but we hope the signing could be in 2018. The date has not been set yet. Our government has approved the MoU. China has done so in accord with their procedures as well. Both sides are ready (for the signing)," said Aung Naing Oo, secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission.
As the project is crucial for both countries, the signing ceremony will take place in the presence of the leaders of the two countries, and the signing would be within this year, Aung Naing Oo added.
