YANGON- Fishery businesses face shortage and high costs of feedstuff, said Treasurer Zaw Lin of the Myanmar Fishery Entrepreneurs Association yesterday said at the regular meeting of Myanmar Fishery Federation.
“During these two weeks, the bran prices climbed way too high. Although fish breeders have the money, there has been shortage of bran. Generally, fish breeders have to feed the bran. So, there are many difficulties of regarding feeds. Massive fishes may be seen in the market because breeders decided to cash-in their fishes as they have no feedstuff. According to the situation of fish market, 30 to 40 fishing boats usually dock at the Kyitmyindaing and Shwepaduck Fish Markets in the past. Now, there are about 70 fishing boats arriving at the markets. When we reviewed this problem, We found that shortage of raw ingredients is pushing the demand for fish feed way too high. As an entrepreneur, he or she will face great difficulties continuing their fish farms,” said Treasurer Zaw Lin.
At present, Myanmar faces decline in the fishery sector. Therefore, fish breeders had urged the government to provide aid for them.
Countries such as Saudi Arabia had banned Myanmar fish exports from entering their market, leading to somewhat of a crisis in Myanmar’s Fishery Sector.
