The alley playground in Kyauktada Township opened on June 17.

The Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) says private firms are showing interest in making public spaces in alleyways.

Than Myint Aung, a member of the YCDC, said: “Individuals and companies showed interest in making public spaces in alleyways. For example, the United Paints Group told us via artist Myint Maung Kyaw that they would help decorate the alleys.”

Residents can get help from the YCDC and the regional government if they want so set up these public alley spaces, she added.

“Ditched need to be cleaned and sewer pipes need to be repaired before creating a public space in an alley. Of course, the rubbish needs to be taken out. The YCDC, MPs and residents will need to cooperate.”

The Yangon Alley Garden Project was set up earlier this year by the team from Doh Eain. Those interested in setting up an alley garden can contact Doh Eain by calling 09420002961.
