Singapore tops list of best Asian universities

The Korea Herald/Asia News Network) National University of Singapore has retained its title as Asia’s best university for the second year in a row, according to the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2017.

Peking University maintained its second-place ranking and Tsinghua University was ranked third. Both of them are located in Beijing.

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology ranked eighth, followed by Seoul National University and Pohang University of Science and Technology.

Trump orders on trade puzzles Asia

Bangkok (ANN News Desk) - US President Donald Trump's executive order on what he describes as trade "cheaters" has many countries in Asia scratching their heads and questioning US policy in the region. 

Trump signed an order late last week that he promises will stop "foreign importers that cheat." Under the executive order, countries with large trade imbalances with the United States will be closely scrutinized for a 90 day period while the administration holds talks with manufacturers, service providers, farmers and consumers to identify ongoing problems.

Students create website to help foreigners find houses

TOKYO (The Japan News/ANN) - Students at Meiji University have launched a website that offers assistance to foreigners looking for places to live in Nakano Ward, Tokyo.

Called “Living Together in Nakano,” the site lists real estate agencies where English is spoken and other such services. It was created by a group of about 10 people, including graduating seniors of the School of Global Japanese Studies, which is located on Meiji’s Nakano campus.

If you value your health, you wouldn’t mix energy drinks with alcohol

 

Mixing alcoholic beverages with highly caffeinated energy drinks could be increasing the risk of falls and injury according to researchers.

A team from the University of Victoria’s Centre for Addictions Research of BC (CARBC) in Canada looked at 13 studies on the topic of alcohol and energy drinks published from 1981 to 2016.

From the 13 studies that fit the criteria, 10 showed evidence of a link between drinking alcohol mixed with energy drinks (AmED) and an increased risk of injury compared to drinking alcohol only.
